One of the best parts of my job is traveling across the state and visiting our beautiful courthouses. Many Arkansas towns are literally built around their courthouse, so they each share incredible history. Marianna, Arkansas, is one of those cities and is a part of Lee County. Every business that you need is literally across the street from the Lee County courthouse. The first building on the left is a funeral home, and up the street, a department store is actually inside the local newspaper office. There are a couple of terrific restaurants are on the other side of the street, so you can see that in Mariana, the courthouse Square is truly the pulse of the county. People not only conduct important business in this place, they also meet and greet one another. I would love to spend a week in downtown Marianna to learn more about its history.
Before I traveled to Lee County, I was planning my trip and asked my Facebook network if they had restaurants to recommend. Several friends told me that I had to stop at Jones’ barbecue while In Lee County, and I am glad that I heeded this good advice. The chopped pork barbecue sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had. Mr. Jones was extremely kind, and he took pity upon me for living so far away from his barbecue restaurant. He ended up giving me the sandwich. Maybe his generosity was due to our fast friendship, maybe it was because he was ready to go fishing. Either way, I was grateful! I met so many great people in Lee County, where I was able to take care of my legal business AND fill my stomach with incredible BBQ. I can't wait for the opportunity to return.
